This holiday season, Nexon America Inc. is giving its 4 million-plus players the gift that made MapleStory so popular in the first place: good old fashioned MMORPG thrills with exhilarating quests, exciting in-game events, and intense guild competitions. These events end the year on a high note, as Nexon America focuses on maintaining its leadership position and reputation for providing and servicing the best games in the casual MMO space. MapleStory¡¯s in-game excitement is supplemented with web contests featuring the real-life talents of its community.

In a double dose of holiday spirit, MapleStory will feature two versions of a Maple Christmas, ¡®Maplemas¡¯ and ¡®Versalmas.¡¯ The former is the traditional holiday players have enjoyed over the last two years, while the latter brings players into contact with a new, radically different holiday experience from an alternate dimension. Players can choose which holiday to celebrate and experience two different story arcs. Each quest within the story arc rewards different presents unique to each holiday. Adding to the experience is a competition within each of the eight servers. The winning side receives a gift at the end of the event. MapleStory¡¯s numerous guilds can look forward to the return of ¡®Cody¡¯s Guild Graham Grab,¡¯ which awards the winning guilds Maple Points, the in-game currency used in the Cash Shop. This hearty holiday update gives users the privilege to choose, create, and enjoy their own meaningful game experiences.

Maplers will wave 2007 goodbye and ring in 2008 ¡°New Year¡¯s Evil,¡± which runs on New Year¡¯s Eve and New Year¡¯s Day giving users the experience to battle ¡®fake¡¯ monster bosses on certain MapleStory maps. The use of fake bosses (appearance unchanged, skills drastically reduced) gives novice MapleStory players a glimpse of the fearsome monsters found deep in the Maple World. Since newer MapleStory players would not have yet earned the opportunity to face the real monster bosses, ¡°New Year¡¯s Evil¡± is one of the most anticipated in-game events this holiday season.

Other in-game events include the tremendously popular ¡®Double EXP¡¯, which doubles the experience users accrue allowing them to advance their characters at twice the normal rate, and the ¡®Double Drop,¡¯ which doubles the amount of items monsters drop when killed. The Double EXP and Double Drop events begin on December 17 and end January 1, and only occur for two hours each day, making it a must-play time for all MapleStory users. In addition to limited double EXP hours, the Cash Shop will also be holding its ¡®White Winter Sale,¡¯ another ¡®limited hours¡¯ sale scheduled from December 17th-30th. Much like the hugely successful Black Friday sales but with far fewer items, Nexon America is preparing for the holiday sales rush following its record-setting Black Friday sales.

Utilizing the active and vibrant community of MapleStory, ¡®Maplemas Dessert¡¯ is a web event inviting users to whip up their own Maplemas desserts and submit a picture of their creation on the MapleStory website for all to enjoy. ¡®Maplemas Dessert¡¯ is an example of how MapleStory encourages its players to enjoy other activities such as baking in the spirit of the holidays. The popularity of past contests, such as cooking, fan art, and poetry, are always a favorite among the players, and are a healthy testament to the depth and development of the community.
