Combat drones. Part 2

Heavy Attack Drones
Heavy drones are the Berserker, Ogre, Praetor and Wasp plus their T2 counterparts. Heavy drones take 25m3 in the drone bay. Ogres are the most robust of the Heavy drones – they are kind of tanks. They are also the slowest. The Wasp is the fastest heavy drone. To use heavy drones the skill Heavy Drones Operation is needed. These drones are better to attack cruisers or even battleships – 5 heavy drones are a serious force.

Sentry Drones
Sentry (patrol) drones cannot fly, but have powerful weapons. In the bay they occupy 25 cubic meters. Their Tracking is slow, so they are hard to hit fast goals. Usage of sentry drones is simple – they are unloaded, then given the order to attack, and then manually cllected back into the bay. Representatives of Sentry Drones are the Garde, Warden, and others. Using Sentry drones is also pretty interesting – so that they shoot, it is necessary that the target is closer than Drone Range to you (not the drones!), and to the drones – closer then Activation Proximity. If you are at 60 km both from the drones and the target – the former will not shoot. And if you’re at a distance of 10 km from the target, and drones somewhere 80 km behind the target – they will open fire.

Combat Utility Drones
These are a group combat support drones. It inclueds three Energy Neutraliser drones with different degrees of severity and power (Acolyte EV-300, Infiltrator EV-600 and Praetor EV-900), which neutralize the capacitor energy in the enemy ships, and one Heavy Webifier Drone (Berserker SW-900) which throws kind of net upon the enemy.

Logistics Drones
This group includes important repair drones. They are fuirther divided on shield support drones and armor support drones. In this group there are 6 drones – two of each size type. One of them repaires the armor, and the other deals with the shield. They are extremely useful drones – because they do not require any slots or capacitor, and repair not only you but all friendly ships within their action range

Hardly Accesible Skills

In the game, there are skills which you can only see in the character sheet, if you turn the filter to display absolutely all the skills. It is currently impossible to get those skills neither on the market nor among contracts. Since they do exist, it is possible to conclude that they might be soon included into the game, maybe with the next patch. Here’s the list of such skills with details on them:

Genetic Engineering – allows to create hybrids of machines and living organisms. Makes it possible to use DNA mutators. It is very likely that this skill is somehow connected with the hidden Jovian race. This skill might bring some new elements into the game.

Gunnery Interfaces – a skill to manage the ship’s turrets, enables the use of powerful implants in the body, which will positively affect the combat capacibities of the character. This ability is fairly useful, although similar one are already there.

DED Connections – it is the ability to convincingly communicate with units of Concord (‘DED’). The main purpose of this communication is to obtain a higher reward for the murder of a pirate. Gives up to 1,500 ISK per killed pirate. As we can judge by the amount, this skill make very little sense, when (if) it is available, and perhaps will only be useful for beginners.

There are also other mysterious skills that are allowed by the game, but generally are not indexed, they are not listed in the Eve database, they cannot be bought. The only possibility at all to learn about them – is the character sheet.
An example of such a skill, is the skill Duplicating Rank. It is seen in the charater sheet under Science section. Another skill – Hypernet Science – can also only be found under the same section.

Generally, the skill tree in EVE Online is quite large and seriously worked out, but because the game still cannot be considered not fully completed, and as it still evolves, and new content, not only eve ships, is periodically added, there is always a possibility for a broader character leveling.

This is especially true in EVE Online as developers are encouraged to communicate with players through the forum and write detailed devblogs on what they’re working on. In that sense, GM Guard needs very little introduction. Along with GM Grimmi and others, Guard has been a very public face for GMs in the community for as long as I can remember. While Guard has made huge contributions to EVE behind the scenes as a lead GM, he’s probably most well-known for his role in CCP’s internal band Permaband. He has now moved on from the GM team to become EVE’s new Community Developer.

The role of GMs in any MMO is pivotal, and yet they so often come under fire from players who don’t get the response they’re hoping for or who have to wait too long for an answer. Many EVE players are also unaware of the procedures for escalating petitions, reporting exploits, contacting internal affairs or other important activities.

In this EVE Spotlight, we got together with former Lead GM Guard to pick his brains on these topics, find out a little about CCP’s support division. As part of Permaband, Guard began his foray into music with the debut of HTFU at the 2009 Fanfest and continued with this year’s showing of Keep Clickin’ at the 2011 Fanfest. When it came time for me to pick out a single video that really sums up GM Guard, the choice was easy to make. HTFU is an iconic song that has been essentially adopted as a company anthem.

EVE: Join stress test

Mass Testing is CCP’s way of gathering a multitude of players in one area to grade server performance before launching new content to the live server. The team checks trend-data, streamlines high-priority changes, and gains critical player feedback. This week’s test focuses on the Carbon UI and server remapping. If you would like to take part in this week’s Mass Testing, hop on Singularity at 4 p.m. EDT on Thursday 28th. Remember, this is a stress test, so invite everyone you know!

Eve online is a space age mmorpg that allows players to command their very own spacecraft as they fight for dominance of the EVE universe. Separate classes classified as miners, scouts and battle ships are available for players to choose from. There are many aspects to the game. Players must first complete basic quests that teach them the basics of the game. Once the basics are learnt players are thrown into the eve online universe that allows them to join companies and other groups of players to fight for control of the sector. EVE ISK ONLINE is the currency that is used in eve online. It can be purchased from a variety of different sources such as external websites and in game. EVE ISK FOR SALE is found within the game by players who specialize in collecting EVE ISK by selling goods such as weapons and armour upgrades. Selling materials such as minerals and metals on EVE ONLINE ISK allows players to collect a significant amount of upgrades depending on the amount that can be spared.

The benefits of EVE ISK buying are the ability to save time and valuable game time. Without the need to farm or complete players will be able to focus on the PvP aspects of the game. The large scale battles that take place within EVE ONLINE. Eve online utilizes a single server that allows players to create large-scale battles that cannot take place in any other mmorpg.

Really those pro-AFK cloaking people are getting a kind boring by sticking strictly to: an afk cloaker is always AFK. Dont be an idiot, everyone knows what is meant. You cannot possibly put pvp ships in standby against an afk cloaker, considering how horribly gimped pve setups in eve are you do not stand a chance in a pve setup + full NPC dps vs a pvp ship, so you are pretty much ****ed. Now remove local and you are always in that state.

Lets see the results for removing local:
Carebears are forced to hit dir scan button roughly once every 15 seconds (minimum time period to make sure you catch probes/incoming ship on scan, and in case of incoming ship you might still be too late in case of a fast one). No defense at all against black ops drops, and hell any SB gangs. If you cannot see why being forced to press a button every 15 seconds is horrible game design I got some bad news for you…
Really funny then is that guy who compared it to him pressing dir scan during pvp fights (with which he means most likely ganks). That takes like 2 minutes max, really logical to compare that to pressing dir scanner for 2 hours in a row. Sure you press dir scanner during that fight to check for enemy reinforcements, but that is nothing compared to how often a carebear would have to press it, without any specific reason to press it.

Now we got the bots. They will indeed also become vulnerable to black ops drops/SB roams. That is exactly the same as a human player, both die to them without much they can do about it, (welcome to pve in eve, where you are ****ed when a pvp ship shows up), so not a nerf to bots.
What we also have is the non-cov ops cloaked ships. Human players who do not want RSI/do want a life will die to them since they dont press d-scan every 10 seconds, bots do press it every 10 seconds (lol btw @ whoever wanted to use that to identify bots, you are forced to continiously press d-scan, but if you actually do it you get banned, maybe we should just line up for you so you can kill us?), so they are boosted compared to humans.

Then we got the pirates/gankers/whatever. Since some people apparently missed the eve guide, let me put it simple: They are pretty much not hurt at all by removal of local (especially in 0.0). Knowing how to find that carebear? Open dotlan, check NPC kills. Dotlan is down? Open sov window, check sov upgrades. But what about belt ratters? Press d-scan (yes once per system, nothing compared to what carebears have to do), if wrecks -> some pve’ing going on. (Systems without a belt near either incoming or outgoing gate are negligble). Missions/signatures? You need probes for them anyway. One press with deep space probe will show you ship signatures in entire system. In other words they pretty much arent hurt at all.

But that is good, right? Eve is all dark and pvp, so it is good to find many defenseless targets so you dont have too much risk, you dotn want to pvp where they can shoot back. Now the more realistic result, people are already whining about not enough targets both in 0.0 and low sec all the time, what do you think those remaining people will do when you make it easy to gank them? Yes move to high sec (i wonder if not the majority of these ideas come from high sec wardeccers).
And who benefits from that? Bots. The best counter to bots is legit players. Empty wastelands is the natural habitat from bots. Just look at old providence, how many bots did run there? I am pretty sure the answer is zero, it was just way too busy for bots. So removal of local boosts bots in several ways, it isnt a nerf to them.

Newbie miner needs some advice

Hey. I have only been playing for a couple of weeks. I am in a Procurer and in about a day i will be in a Retriever. I first got the skills i needed to get a Hauler Ship Iteron 1 and then i got the skills to get a Procurer. Before this i was mining in a Navitas filling a container up and coming back when it was full to take all of it back in my Iteron. I want to make much ISK doing mining but i’m not sure what i should do next. The skills i have are:

Anchoring 1
Drones 1
Mining drone operation 1
electronics 3
electronics upgrades 2
survey 1
engineering 3
shield operation 2
gunnery 2
small hybrid turret 3
industry 5
mining 4
mining upgrades 1
hull upgrades 1
mechanic 2
navigation 3
Astrogeology 3 (training to 4)
cybernetics 1
Science 4
gallente frig 3
gallente industrial 1
mining barge 1 (training to 3 after astrogeology)
spaceship command 3

I am not sure what skills to get after i have got the skills to fly a retriever. Could anyone help me out? I am not sure whether i should get my Mining Barge and Astrogeology to level 5 straight away so i can use a Covetor ASAP. What should i do?

While some of what Miss Rabbit says is good, like getting to a hulk, I would neither be very worried about your tank or doing any gas harvesting skills.

As a miner first and foremost, you’re going to be training your drone skills up, and that’s all that he needs to defend against the few rats he’s going to be facing for quite some time. Some light drones will do you fine. He’s not defending himself from players, nor can he. Training a few shield related skills won’t hurt at all, but shield tanking even 0.5 ats isn’t very hard while his light drones kill them.

Since the only gas sites he could be harvesting any gas from at this point in his career are from sites he would have to scan down, those can suck up some serious training times. Better to just focus on the mining profession. If he wants to branch out into a jack of all trades, as many of us do, that’s fine at a later date. But to do so in the beginning when he’s just learning how to mine would seriously dilute any income he’ll actually make.

Definitely training Refining to V is a huge deal, as well as getting your high sec ore processing skills to 3, 4 is better to have access to T2 mining crystals. Hull Upgrades 2 will get you Expanded Cargo IIs, so more room to mine with, or go with Mining Upgrades 4 for Mining Laser Upgrades IIs in the lows if you have a dedicated hauler or still plan to jetcan mine in a quiet system, which is doable.

Then Astrogeology V and a Hulk!

Gurristas Missions Runners LOL

You guys really got boned didn’t you? I seldom rat and never do missions but I was in a .5 for a half an hr because Orphanage and thier monkeys are in between war decs. I did an onboard and got a site. 2 cruisers and a frigate perma jammed my Legion for 15 minutes while I orbited them, repairing thier **** all damage. After 15 minutes I got bored and left.

Sucks to be a carebear. CCP really hates you guys. Did you beat up thier dog or something?

Sucks you’re a noob at missions …. if you knew anythng about PVE gameplay, you would have come to the mission prepared and ready for jamming (following EVE mission guide), fitting yoru ship with modules needed to complete it successfully. Did you beat around the bush to post rubish?

Yeah, and the other day me and my friends were in a fleet of 20 marauders doing a level 2 mission when omg a falcon arrived and perma-jammed everyone and killed us and then concord arrived and podded us and we petitioned it and then ccp banned us and now I’m posting from an alt account they’ll never catch me cos I got a really good bot and now I mine.

Who says MMO players are not concerned with real life? CCP, the developer, publisher and operator of the MMO EVE Online, announced today that together, with the gifts of his players, 40607.50 dollars for the Japan Red Cross.

The operation lasted two weeks and went through their system PLEX, Drivers License Extension. This is an item in game that extends the 30 day game time credited to an account of EVE Online. Players can not give hard cash and were encouraged to buy their spending PLEX ISK (the game currency), to give them to a support fund. CCP destroyed then PLEX return to their true value in money (subscription time, whatever) to the Red Cross.

The system was proven during the earthquake disaster in Haiti and floods in Pakistan, with respectively 40,000 and $ 20,000 previously raised.

So it PLEX 2549, to 17.5 dollars apiece, which were donated by the players this time. A total donation system has already allowed the harvest, all aid operations combined, of 108,000 dollars (about 76,000 euros).

Real drug for my friends addicted to world combining science fiction, politics, roleplay and gameplay sometimes so soft that sleep between two stargates, EVE Online continues his career despite the grumbling of some players. Yes, some patches do not really packed the old timers, it happens. I would say that any MMO that lives long enough knows this kind of disappointment.

To announce a contest with a key to the entire machine (among others), the PAC guys still insured with a video that makes you want to dive back into this title, if different from the MMO for n00bs that abound today.

This clip shows you how revenge is a dish best served cold, with a little guide to infiltrate opposing clan, and emptying their coffers a few weeks later. One scenario now almost classical in EVE Online, which has something to dream about those who are reluctant to try. And terrorizes the real players EvE!
